ELECTRICAL PROJECT ENGINEER

Duties

  1. Assist in reviewing and finalizing the electrical designs for the plant expansion, ensuring compliance with all project specifications and safety standards.
  2. Collaborate with the EPC/EPCM contractor to ensure the electrical system design aligns with operational and process requirements.
  3. Provide input on the selection and sizing of electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, motors, and other electrical components.
  4. Ensure that electrical design interfaces with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, civil, process) to maintain project integration.
  5. Work closely with the EPCM team to review electrical design documents, specifications, and procurement plans.
  6. Monitor the progress of electrical design and ensure the timely delivery of drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  7. Assist in resolving technical issues during design, construction, and commissioning phases, ensuring that all electrical work aligns with project scope, cost, and schedule.
  8. Coordinate communication between internal teams and the EPCM contractor to resolve electrical-related issues quickly and efficiently.
  9. Support the procurement of electrical equipment and materials, ensuring that specifications meet the project’s requirements and are delivered on time.
  10. Assist in evaluating electrical equipment and vendor proposals, ensuring that all equipment is compliant with industry standards and the project design.
  11. Liaise with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery, quality control, and proper installation of electrical components.
  12. Provide on-site support during the installation of electrical systems, ensuring that installations meet design specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements.
  13. Oversee the electrical construction process, monitor progress, and proactively address potential delays or issues.
  14. Ensure that all electrical installations comply with applicable codes, regulations, and health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  15. Support the commissioning and start-up phases of electrical systems, ensuring all systems are fully integrated, tested, and operational.
  16. Assist with troubleshooting electrical issues during commissioning and coordinate with the EPCM team to resolve them promptly.
  17. Ensure the electrical systems are ready for handover to operations, including the preparation of documentation and reports.
  18. Ensure that all electrical engineering documentation is up-to-date and aligned with project standards.
  19. Prepare regular progress reports on the electrical scope of the project, identifying milestones, risks, and mitigation actions.
  20. Maintain accurate records of all electrical design, procurement, installation, and commissioning activities.
  21. Any other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  1. Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  2. Experience delivering electrical scope on process plants or mining infrastructure projects.
  3. Over 5 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering for mining and processing plants. Skilled in managing projects from Feasibility Study to Commissioning, with expertise in electrical system design and instrumentation. Experienced in coordinating with contractors and vendors within an Owner’s Team.
  4. Strong understanding of commissioning and energisation workflows.
  5. Site-based project execution experience essential.
  6. Expertise in electrical/instrumentation design, power systems, and control systems.
  7. Proficient in AutoCAD, Eplan, MATLAB, and similar tools.
  8. Strong knowledge of codes/standards (e.g., IEC, NEC, ANSI, ISA, NEMA, NFPA, EEE).
  9. Skilled in problem-solving, analysis, and troubleshooting.
  10. Excellent leadership, communication, and team management.
  11. Knowledge of mechanical systems in gold processing (crushing, grinding, recovery, etc.).
  12. Familiar with process equipment life cycle and maintenance strategies.
  13. Experience with process control/automation (SCADA, PLCs).
  14. Strong leadership and team management skills.
  15. Experienced in mentoring engineers and resolving issues proactively.
  16. Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  17. Detail-oriented with a focus on safety, quality, and compliance.
  18. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  19. Skilled in managing cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  20. Relevant electrical safety certifications (e.g., High Voltage Safety, Arc Flash, etc.) are advantageous.
  21. Professional Engineering license (STRI, etc.) or equivalent is preferred.
  22. Project management, supervisory, health, safety, and environmental certifications (e.g., PMP, ISO 14001, HAZOP, POM, POU, K3 Electrical/General) are a plus.
  23. Ability to demonstrate awareness of company safety and environmental policies and practices.
